Coil Mortar AR-886 Brings Insulation and Thermal Protection to Coreless Induction Furnace Coils

Gaoyou, Jiangsu, November 5, 2026 — GAOYOU FANGYUAN FURNACE MATERIAL FACTORY is presenting Coil Mortar for Induction Furnace AR-886 as a dedicated material for the coil section of coreless induction furnaces. The grade is a monolithic refractory coating formulated for application on induction coils, where it works as a protective and insulating layer between the coil and the furnace working lining. For foundries and steelmaking plants that treat coil protection as a separate maintenance item rather than an afterthought, AR-886 gives the coil area its own material specification instead of borrowing a lining mix.

Why the coil area needs its own material

In a coreless induction furnace the coil is the component that converts electrical energy into heat in the metal bath, and it sits only a short distance behind the working lining. During melting, that position exposes the coil to radiant heat from the lining face and to the risk of contact with molten metal if the lining is worn or cracked. The coil also carries current, so anything placed directly against it has to answer two requirements at once: it must insulate, and it must resist heat.

A lining mix is not designed for that position. Ramming mixes and castables build a working lining that faces the melt, and their consistency is chosen for ramming, casting or vibrating into a lining cavity. Coil protection is a different task: a coating applied to the coil surface, which has to stay in place, stay electrically insulating and limit heat transfer toward the coil assembly. Treating the two positions as one specification usually means compromising one of them.

AR-886 was developed to separate the two. It is listed in the factory catalogue as refractory coil mortar for induction furnace coils, and its stated purpose is exactly the gap between the coil and the working lining.

What AR-886 is formulated to do

The grade is described by the manufacturer as a monolithic refractory coating built for application on induction coils in coreless induction furnaces. Its three stated functions are high temperature resistance, insulation and strong adhesion, and each of them maps to a specific condition in the coil area.

      • Insulation. The material is designed to provide electrical insulation between the coil and the surrounding furnace structure, so the coil is not left relying on the working lining for electrical separation.

      • Thermal protection. It acts as a barrier that limits heat transfer toward the coil assembly during furnace operation, which is the reason the coating is placed directly on the coil surface.

      • Adhesion. The product is formulated to hold on the coil surface after application, so the coating stays where it was placed instead of migrating or falling away.

      • Consistency. Raw materials are selected to reach a consistency suited to coating work on coil surfaces, rather than to ramming or casting into a mould.

Because AR-886 is a coating rather than a structural lining, it does not replace the working lining and is not positioned as one. It is a protective layer that sits between the coil and the lining, and the two are specified together as a pair.

“The coil is the part of the furnace that is hardest to replace and easiest to overlook. A coating that insulates and resists heat is a small line item compared with a coil failure, and it is the reason we keep this grade as a separate product rather than folding it into the lining range.”

One grade inside a complete lining package

AR-886 is supplied as part of a wider induction furnace programme rather than as a stand-alone item. The factory produces acidic, neutral and basic ramming mixes for induction furnace linings, including the AYS-165F7, AYS-170F7 and AYS-170S7 acidic ramming materials, the FYAC-90CR neutral ramming material, and high-alumina ramming mixes for ladle work. Repair materials sit alongside them: white mud A76 and green mud 906 for lining maintenance, high alumina carbon repair mix ED-ASC-02, and castables such as ladle castable ED-AC-00, high-alumina wear-resistant castable ED-AC-01, corundum self-flow castable ED-AV-02 and high-alumina self-flow castable AL-389.

The advantage for a buyer is specification consistency. A foundry that sources its lining, its repair mixes and its coil coating from one factory works from one set of material assumptions, one technical contact and one documentation set. When a lining campaign is planned, the coil coating is part of the same conversation as the ramming mix and the repair compound, which is how the material was intended to be used.

The range also covers unshaped precast components, including bottom contact blocks and tap hole bricks for electric furnaces, alongside fused quartz and cupola ramming mass.

      Manufacturing control behind the grade

AR-886 is produced at the company's plant in Gaoyou High-tech Development Zone, Jiangsu Province. The site covers 28,000 square meters, with 19,000 square meters of construction area, and houses production and testing equipment for refractory materials. Production follows controlled conditions with an emphasis on formulation accuracy and batch consistency, which matters more for a coating applied in a thin layer, where a shift in consistency shows up immediately.

The factory is certified to ISO9001:2015, and quality inspection is carried out during production rather than only at the end of the batch. Materials are supplied to customers across more than ten domestic provinces and municipalities, and the company works with Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Nanjing Tech University and Luoyang Refractory Materials Research Laboratory on formulation development. That cooperation also supports the coil mortar range.

AR-886 is packed in 25kg bags with a shelf life of 180 days. Packaging is marked for moisture protection, sealed storage and heat avoidance, which reflects how the material behaves in storage rather than any special handling claim.

      Documentation and technical support

Buyers can request a full documentation set for the grade before ordering. The technical data sheet covers physical and chemical properties, grain size distribution, maximum service temperature, drying and burn-in curve, thermal shock resistance data, and bulk density and porosity. Installation guidelines are provided as a general reference for handling and application, and the factory's technical team supports customers with lining construction and baking guidance across the refractory range, not only for the coil coating.

That documentation matters at the specification stage. Coil coating is often bought under time pressure, during a shutdown or after an unplanned failure, and having the properties, the drying curve and the installation reference in one place lets the buyer match the grade to the furnace instead of substituting whatever coating is available.

      Availability and ordering

Coil Mortar for Induction Furnace AR-886 is available for direct order from the factory. Buyers can request the technical data sheet, discuss the grade against a specific furnace, or ask for a sample before committing to a batch. Inquiries are handled by the sales team through the official website.
