Read the lot code before the product goes into the carton and again with the insert and product seated as intended. The same code can be clear on the loose bottle and partly hidden behind a retaining tab, fold or tray edge. This distinction helps identify whether the loss of readability comes from the mark or from how the pack is assembled.

Compare visibility with the required reading condition
Agree on whether the code needs to be read with the carton open, while the bottle remains seated, or after normal removal. Check several assembled units in that condition. If a code is intended for machine reading, use the specified reader and setup, since a mark that a person can decipher may not be reliably readable by the system.
Separate obstruction from damage
If the code is hidden, look at bottle orientation, marking position and the insert opening. If it is visible but blurred after removal, compare the mark before and after insertion and inspect any matching contact point. Record the carton and insert revision, bottle orientation and the read result. Change one factor at a time before approving a new marking or insert position.
