A small dull patch can appear at a fixture contact point or carry through from the molded surface. Photographing the same location at successive stages is usually more useful than judging the final mark by its shape.
Find the first stage where it appears
Keep comparable parts from molding, before and after decoration, and before and after assembly. Use the same orientation and lighting to photograph the location. Map it to actual tool and fixture contact points with the production team. Record whether the surface shows a change in height, loss of coating coverage, a gloss change, or material transfer. A molded witness can become much more visible after decoration, and a fixture can leave a mark before a coating is applied.

If the mark first appears after a particular operation, repeat that operation on a clean part with the same setup. When practical, compare against an equivalent fixture with the suspect contact changed under an agreed trial. Record what changed and whether the mark followed that change. Use the earliest confirmed appearance and the repeat test together before assigning corrective action to molding, finishing, or assembly.
