Loose powder that becomes harder to dispense after storage raises several possible questions at once. Has the powder become more cohesive? Has it compacted? Did moisture exposure change? A useful investigation describes the change before assigning it to the formula or the jar.

Caking can have more than one contributor
Freeman Technology’s discussion of powder caking identifies humidity, temperature and applied stress among the factors affecting particle interactions. The way those factors matter depends on the powder. A general powder-handling principle does not predict how a particular cosmetic formula will behave.
Moisture sensitivity may contribute to particles binding together, while mechanical consolidation can also make dispensing more difficult. Similar symptoms do not prove a common cause. A hard region beneath a frequently used puff, a lump in an unopened sample and powder that simply bridges over a dispensing opening should be described separately.
Use comparisons that keep the starting powder consistent
One practical study can split a well-characterized powder batch between the proposed package and an agreed reference container. Keep the initial powder condition, fill amount, preparation and storage exposure comparable. Include retained starting material so that a later difference is not mistaken for a condition already present before filling.
The reference is a comparison, not a perfect simulation of the intended pack. Differences in headspace, closure, material and geometry may all affect the result. If several features change together, improvement in one container does not identify which feature caused it. A follow-up comparison should narrow the variable of interest.
Separate closed storage from repeated use
Compare closed-storage samples with a separately defined opening-and-use sequence where that reflects the intended product. Record opening frequency, environmental conditions and puff handling. A damp applicator can introduce a different exposure from the unopened pack. Freshly filled and repeatedly opened units should not be treated as equivalent samples.
For the package, confirm the actual closure assembly and contact surfaces rather than assuming that the sifter is a moisture seal. A jar or powder compact may use different components for dispensing, retaining powder and closing the pack. An observed change in caking is not, by itself, a measurement of closure leakage or moisture transmission.
SamBound New Material Technology Company Ltd. lists loose powder packaging under the Sambound name at sambound.com. A project discussion becomes clearer when it identifies the particular jar or compact construction and separates powder behavior from the conditions applied to the assembled pack.
The purpose of these comparisons is to guide the next investigation. Acceptance limits, storage duration and formula suitability need to be agreed for the actual product; this screening approach does not establish shelf life.
