A packaging discussion is much easier when the first brief contains more than a bottle photo. Capacity, closure type, label format, carton arrangement and destination market can all affect how a liquid home care or personal care product is developed, filled and presented.

Zhejiang Jifu Daily Chemical Co., Ltd. works with private-label customers across liquid detergent, household cleaning and personal care categories. Use this checklist for an initial inquiry. Final packaging specifications are confirmed after project review and sample approval.

Packaging decisions should be reviewed together with the product, filling process and intended market.

Start with the product and where it will be sold

Before choosing a bottle, state the product category and its intended use. A laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, hand soap and shampoo may call for different dispensing formats and pack sizes. It also helps to identify the target country or region, sales channel and target price range. A pack designed for supermarket shelves may not be the same as one intended for wholesale, e-commerce or professional use.

State whether the formula already exists, still needs development or is open to a factory recommendation. This helps determine which product and packaging questions can be reviewed together.

Define the bottle size and dispensing format

A useful brief gives the preferred net volume, bottle style and dispensing method. Depending on the product, the request might involve a screw cap, flip-top cap, pump or another suitable closure. If the buyer already has a preferred bottle, drawings, dimensions or a physical sample are more useful than a cropped product image.

The requested size should also be considered in relation to the sales channel, expected use and shipping arrangement. The brief should state whether an existing bottle format is acceptable or whether a custom bottle and possible mold development are being considered, including any related budget limit.

      Product and packaging compatibility

Liquid products bring practical packaging questions that should be raised before the pack is approved. Confirm with the manufacturer what compatibility checks are needed for the proposed formula and the selected bottle, cap or pump before final packaging approval. Also specify any requirements for sealing, leak prevention, tamper evidence or pump locking.

The expected use and shipping conditions also matter. A hand soap or shampoo label may be exposed to water or product residue, while an e-commerce pack may need additional attention to closure security and transport handling. List any unusual storage, transport or use conditions in the brief so they can be evaluated for the project.

      Separate fixed requirements from preferences

Buyers often have a few points that cannot change and several that can. It is helpful to mark them clearly. A required pack volume, brand color or retail carton count may be fixed, while the exact bottle shape or cap finish may still be open for discussion.

This distinction gives the project team room to assess workable packaging options without losing the parts that matter most to the brand. JIFU can support bottle and cap selection, packaging-size review, color coordination, label-layout coordination and outer-packaging discussions. JIFU also has in-house production capabilities for selected plastic bottles, caps and related packaging components.

Bottle, closure and label details are reviewed before the packaging specification is approved.

Prepare brand files and label content separately

The brand logo and visual artwork are only one part of a label brief. Buyers should also prepare the proposed product name, net-content statement, directions, warnings, company information, barcode and other text required for the destination market. Editable artwork files are preferable once the layout stage begins.

Label content should match the approved product and applicable market requirements. If claims, ingredient information or mandatory statements are still being checked, identify them as pending instead of placing unconfirmed wording into final artwork.

Do not leave the shipping carton until the end

The outer carton affects storage, handling and distribution, so it belongs in the packaging brief. Useful details include the preferred number of units per carton, carton markings, barcode needs and any channel-specific packing request. Pallet or transport requirements should also be raised early when they are relevant to the order.

Final carton dimensions and packing arrangements depend on the approved bottle and unit pack. They should therefore be confirmed after the primary packaging has been settled, not guessed from an early concept.
